What Bluetooth actually does on a hearing aid
Bluetooth on a hearing aid means calls, music, video and TV audio arrive directly in your ears, instead of coming out of a speaker and being picked up again by a microphone. On a phone call the difference is dramatic, because the voice arrives clean and in both ears.
There are two ways devices do it, and the distinction matters. Universal Bluetooth uses classic Bluetooth and pairs with almost any phone, iPhone or Android, with no special support needed. Made for iPhone with ASHA streams fully on an iPhone, and on Android it needs the phone to support ASHA, which most recent Android phones do.
Bluetooth also unlocks the app. Volume, programmes and accessories run from your phone, and on many models your audiologist can adjust your fitting remotely rather than asking you to come in.
