Is a Behind the ear hearing aid right for you?
A BTE hearing aid sits behind your ear and sends sound down a thin tube into an earmould or dome. Because all the electronics live outside the ear, there is room for a bigger receiver and a bigger battery, which is why BTE still covers the most severe hearing loss and runs the longest between charges.
It is also the easiest style to live with day to day. If small objects are fiddly, a BTE is simpler to put on, clean and change than anything that sits inside the ear.
The trade off is visibility. A BTE is the most noticeable of the four wearing styles, though modern ones are far slimmer than the beige units most people picture. If being unseen matters more than raw power, look at receiver in canal or invisible models instead.
